Small English school with a friendly, professional working environment. We seek a full-time teacher to teach 22 hours per week from 01/10/2025 to 30/06/2026 (nine months). Located in the small UNESCO World Heritage city of Evora in southern Portugal, we offer communicative language training and Cambridge exam preparation for small groups of mostly local learners, mainly children/youths from age 7 and some young adults. Teaching schedule 5 days a week: mainly afternoons and early evenings.
Degree required. Cambridge CELTA or equivalent required but other teaching qualifications considered. Two years' experience required, preferably teaching face-to-face. Knowledge of Portuguese or other Latin languages an advantage. We require a teacher who possesses a native-speaker level of competence. Preference given to EU nationals, who have automatic right to residence in Portugal, and others who hold or who have applied for a Portuguese residence permit. Note that residence permits issued in other EU countries to non-EU nationals are not valid in Portugal.
Nine-month employment contract guarantees 22 hours' teaching per week with average remuneration of 1,500 euros gross per month (840 euros severance pay entitlement has to be paid in the last month so over the first eight months actual gross pay is less). 18 days' holiday arranged at Christmas, Easter and end of contract. 30 hours of training entitlement included for professional development. Assistance provided with relocating to Portugal e.g. finding accommodation, registering with the tax authorities, etc. Income tax and social security deductions represent 17% of gross earnings but you may get a tax rebate at the end of the year. Opportunity to learn Portuguese.
